Cox Barton County Hospital enhances diagnostic capabilities with CT scanner upgrade

Cox Barton County Hospital is pleased to announce the acquisition of an advanced 64-slice computed tomography (CT) scanner, made possible by the generous donors to the CoxHealth Foundation.  

This significant upgrade will improve the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities, providing our rural community with access to advanced imaging technology.  

“We are extremely grateful to the CoxHealth Foundation and their supporters for making this possible," says Dr. Jeremy Sturgell, medical director of the Cox Barton Emergency Department. “This is a substantial upgrade for the hospital as it will allow our medical team to obtain more detailed imaging of the body’s internal structures, enabling us to make quick, well-informed decisions when time is of the essence.” 

The new 64-slice CT scanner offers faster scan times, higher resolution images, and greater accuracy in diagnosing various medical conditions, including heart disease, stroke, and cancer. This cutting-edge equipment will enable our medical team to deliver timely care and precise diagnoses, thereby enhancing patient care and outcomes.

The upgraded CT scanner installation is expected to be completed by the end of September. In the meantime, a temporary mobile unit will be available on-site at the hospital to meet patients’ needs.
