Hertzlers Furniture, Solar & Sunflower Bakery celebrates their first year
If you take a short drive north of Lamar and take the Irwin exit you will find Hertzlers Furniture, Solar & Sunflower Bakery. The retail store is located at 581 NW 1st Lane and you can reach them by phone at (417) 884-2000. They opened a year ago and have been busy stocking, restocking their beautiful showroom and bakery due to very healthy sales. The styles vary and include traditional, rustic and to my surprise distressed modern rustic sets to choose from, but the one thing they all have in common is quality.
The owners are Atlee Hertzler and his wife Esther; as I spoke with them and toured their bakery
and showroom, the one word that describes their business is excellence. They sell only hand-crafted items made of solid wood, solar and LED products and the bakery is too irresistible to leave without a purchase.
The furniture side has a generous selection of kitchen/dining room tables and hutches, bedroom sets, desks, entertainment centers, cedar chests, rocking chairs, kids furniture, wind chimes, paintings and outdoor furniture, including one of my favorite outdoor pieces Adirondack chairs. They also carry many styles of portable buildings and custom-designed buildings made by Sunrise Portable Buildings. As soon as you walk into the bakery the smell engulfs you and entices you to try the delicious selection of baked goods. Fresh pies and pastries just to name a few! Fresh donuts are served every Friday and Saturday mornings and I guarantee they are worth visiting on those days. They also have a great selection of Ohio cheeses, jams and jellies, locally grown fresh produce and honey for sale.
During our interview I asked what is one of their greatest accomplishments during the first year? Their response was, “We were so fortunate to get the location we desired right off the 1-49 Interstate. The greatest challenge has been making sure all the details on custom orders are executed to give the customers the product they desired. From placing the orders until pick-up at the store, they oversee the order to completion. For custom order they do require 50 percent down and completion of payment at the time of possession.
Some details about the store. The hours for the furniture store are Monday through Saturday,8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the bakery is open Tuesday through Saturday during the same business hours. They do not accept credit cards at this time, so have your checkbook or cash on you for all of the purchases you will make during your time in their store. Delivery is also a service they provide on their products.
What is next for Hertzlers Furniture? They wanted to keep expanding to give customers more options in the showroom, also enlarge their market radius north to KC and south to Joplin. If you haven’t been out to visit them, I suggest you put that on your list to do very soon. You will love the atmosphere, selection and most of all the excellent customer service you will receive from the Hertzlers Furniture & Sunflower Bakery staff.
